2nd Anniversary in Croatia

For our second anniversary, Chris and I wanted a little R & R. We are typically so busy exploring when we travel, we decided to slow things down a bit and spend the long weekend relaxing by the water. We chose the small fishing town of Rabac, Croatia and found a great resort right on the beach.

Breakfast and dinner were included with our stay at the resort. Since Croatia is near Italy, we definitely noticed some Italian inspiration in the food. Because we were right on the water, the seafood was abundant in the menu. We enjoy mussels, clam, squid and shrimp.

Our delicious meals at the resort
It was a little rainy and overcast when we arrived, but the storm finally cleared and a full rainbow appeared over the water!

After dinner, we strolled down the boardwalk to enjoy the cooler weather and impressive sunset.

The water was really cold, but we just had to dip our toes in it!

The boardwalk had so much activity as the sun went down. Tourists were enjoying the many shops and watching the boats all coming in for the night.

We woke up the next morning to overcast skies. But that didn't stop us from relaxing all morning by the pool.

Part of my delicious breakfast....including fresh squeezed juice!

None of the guests wanted to get in the pool with the overcast weather, but the seagulls sure didn't mind it! They enjoyed the pool all to themselves.

We weren't too disappointed with the weather once we ordered our cocktails!

After lunch, the sun came out, and we ventured down to the water.

Trying to pose, but the cold waves kept crashing around me!

We headed back to the pool to relax in the sun.

Chris finally braved the chilly water of the pool.

I had the pool on one side and the ocean on the other!

After dinner, we strolled back down to the boardwalk.

A random parade was processing down the boardwalk. The funny thing was that the participants didn't seem too concerned with staying together. You would see a few people pass by in the parade and think it was over, then 5 minutes later a few more people in costume would nonchalantly pass by with no sense of urgency to catch up.

The next day was our adventure day; we booked a private kayaking trip. Our guide Mladen took the two of us out in the water and shared with us some of his favorite stories about Croatia.

After showing us the proper technique to paddle the kayak, we headed out into the water. We stopped at a private lagoon to enjoy our lunch and relax in the sun. Mladen brought snorkeling gear, so we were able to explore the crystal clear lagoon.

Mladen had snorkeling gear for us, so we braved the cold water to explore the local wildlife of the lagoon. The water was crystal clear, so we were able to see a variety of fish.

Looking silly, but enjoying the snorkeling!

We then kayaked to another lagoon that was only accessible by water. Mladen helped me climb up a steep cliff to show me the amazing views from above.

Can you find me on the cliff?

After leaving the lagoon, Mladen shared more facts about Croatia with us and pointed out other landmarks.

Mladen brought his water camera, so he was able to capture a few pictures of us in action!

We spent our last night enjoying the views from our balcony. A relaxing beach trip was just what we needed for our anniversary! Croatia is a hidden gem that most tourists don't even know about. We loved the beautiful scenery and delicious food. We will definitely have Croatia on our list for a future trip!
